From Gerald and Theresa Swan   9/14/11
Folks,
I was unable to attend the fall meeting this year but want to know what is up with the road. I have always paid my dues and even suggested a few years back at one of the meetings, raising it to $50 because I was willing to pay the extra to get the road repaired however nothing ever seems to be done. One time this year when I arrived at camp was the road graded and by the end of the weekend it had rained and it was a mess again. My husband and I come almost every weekend and are disgusted that it takes us nearly 30 minutes to travel into our camp, 3 miles in, because we refuse to go so fast as to destroy the truck. We had to have it repaired from last year which cost us a lot. Years ago my mother-in-law, Polly Swan, used to be a part of the LMCA and always had the road graded and collected as many dues as she could door-to-door. Why can't more be done to make people who use the road regularly pay their dues.
I just want an explanation about what is going to be done because frankly I am sick of paying for road maintenance without getting any.

Here's a follow-up to my post about water testing on 7/14:
I finally received results from the fecal coliform and coliform tests, and both were negative, which is great news. No traces of these bacteria were found. Therefore, the lab believes the water is fine to drink and wash with. As I said earlier, based on recommendatioins and past testing in The Forks area by the EPA, state, and county, there are likely no other threats. This is not an iron-clad guarantee, but further tests are very expensive and the testing company felt they'd likely show nothing else.

However, there was a previous post on our web site regarding the finding of arsenic when drilling a well, but I don't recall who posted this or ran that test. Would whoever drilled that well and found arsenic please contact me? I'd like to get the specific test results so we can try to figure out if we should do additional testing for arsenic specifically. My test company tells me that if there are more 10 parts per billion of arsenic in the water, then we should be concerned. If I can get these previous tests, I'll run them by my test company, too.

Finally, as I mentioned before, I spent $270 out of my pocket to get these tests done, so if anyone feels they've benefited from this info and would like to help defray the cost, please contact me at gbudsam@yahoo.com. (Special thanks to Steve C. on the east shore!)
Thanks much,
Bud

Dear Sir/madam,
My name is Carol Faracchio and my husband, Joe,and I own a beautiful lakeside camp on a peninsula on Lake Moxie with spectacular views of Bald Mountain. We have owned this camp for 16 years and have loved our time spent there. However, as our kids have grown, college bills,etc..., we have decided its time to sell our camp. We have always been a member of the campers association and was hoping we could advertise our camp for sale on the LMCA website. We would love to sell our place to someone who already knows the beauty of the lake and wants to keep it that way. I'm sure there are many campowners who have had family and friends visit them at the lake and may have expressed interest in having a place of their own. So if someone could contact me either by e-mail (faracchio714@msn.com) or my home phone -856-786-4371, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time and we look forward to hearing from you.

In the spring, I mentioned that I had taken a couple of water samples. Well, I
messed up and had to take new ones in June. I was contacted recently by the
testing company, and they gave me an idea of what kind of tests we should run
based on information about common problems in our area from the EPA and
from state and county recommendations.

The tests are fairly expensive, so after consulting, we determined that the
biggest threats probably come from bacteria. So I ordered a test for coliform
and for fecal coliform to rule e-coli threats. One sample was taken from the
spring on Lake Moxie Rd., about 1/4 mile from the lake. The other test is from a
spring located near Mosquito Narrows, behind a garage between Roger and Sherry
D's camp and Knoll Crest Camp.

My expenses for doing these samples and tests is $270, so if anyone cares to
chip in a few bucks to defray the cost, it would be welcome. Feel free to e-mail
me at gbudsam@yahoo.com.

I'll share the results of the specific tests when I get them. Should be soon.

Bud

Plum Creek appears to have placed orange ribbons from Joe's Hole all the way north to the Line Camp. The markers can be seen a short distance (maybe 100') in the woods on the west side of the road. I was wondering if anyone has any knowledge of what Plum Creek is up to? Are they planning on cutting? As an abutter, I'm quite surprised that I wasn't informed of their intentions. Has anyone been contacted about this?
